Lubricate a rubber​


It is common to hear that coating a rubber with a greasy substance such as oil or petroleum jelly makes it more flexible. This seemingly logical gesture should be avoided at all costs! In the short term the rubber will soften and gain flexibility, but in the long run the lubricant will attack the material. The only rubbers that are resistant to fats and oils are Viton Rubber (FKM) and Nitrile (NBR). If you want to lubricate a rubber to make it slippery during installation, put a drop of dishwashing liquid. This makes the rubber slip without attacking it.


Concerning vaseline, it is a petroleum derivative. As mentioned above, hydrocarbons attack rubber. If you coat rubber gaskets with petroleum jelly to preserve them, you will get the opposite effect. After a few months, the rubber will become porous and you will need to change all your joints.

I don't understand why Vaseline® (PROTECTING JELLY - Petrolatum) have been recommended to me?
It breaks down plastic and rubber. I even used it on my Bathmate pumps and it also found its way into my washing machine (it's really hard to remove completely).


My homemade water trap imploded and my belief is that the major reason for this, is because of all the Vaseline® (PROTECTING JELLY - Petrolatum) I was using during my girth sessions. It gets covered everywhere.

Even if you only apply it on your penis to Jelq with, it will get covered over your equipment because of the thickness of it and the problems to wash it off your hands.
Remember that 90% of the MityVac HydroVac penis pump kit is made from plastic and rubber.
1. The Acrylic cylinder.

The bad thing is that Vaseline also have been covered over my cylinder, and these cylinders are made from Acrylic.

What is the reason for @92tmorgan pump breaking?
Did you @92tmorgan use Vaseline® (PROTECTING JELLY - Petrolatum) or any kind of fat or oil in combination with your girthwork?

What are your thought about this?
It's not just Petrolatum based products that degrades plastic and rubber, but also any oil and grease will also degrade plastic.
The only plastic that will resist oils and fats/grease from degrading are Viton Rubber (FKM) and Nitrile (NBR).

Maybe the container I was using imploded because it was old, but I do not think we should recommend Vaseline® (PROTECTING JELLY - Petrolatum) any longer.
- But what should you use instead when we perform Jelqs and are pumping with water?
We can not use oils or fats?

But maybe my container for my water trap was just old, it have also been in the dishwasher machine on high heat for many years.

Maybe there will not be any trouble in continue using Vaseline® (PROTECTING JELLY - Petrolatum)?

You can also a water based lubricant. Always use wd40 for all metal parts. After every session wash and completely dry your pump
 
Post #1 above are based on scientific data.
But I use Vaseline in combination with MityVac Hydro-Vac Penis Pump, and I have no negative from it.

Just wash it from the cylinder, and wipe away from the vaccum pump handle after your session is done, and you should not see any problems.

I also recommend to lubricate the rubber O-rings inside the pump with Silicone Grease. You don't want oils and fats on rubber O-rings. But that is just me. I'm probably to cautious with my pump. At least don't put WD-40 on O-rings and rubber/plastic.

As long as you completely clean and dry it there is no fear of damaging y I ur devices
 
I recommend to lubricate all moving parts (inclusive metal parts) with Silicone Grease.
Make sure it is ONLY Silicone Grease.

The reason I do not recommend for example, WD-40 (Original WD-40 formula) has to do with, that if it gets inside the vacuum cylinder inside the vacuum pump handle/pump gun, it will for sure deteriorate the O-rings in there faster, and your Mityvac vacuum pump will not last as long. When the O-rings/seals inside the "pump gun" are dried out and do not create a good seal, the vacuum pump will start to leak vacuum pressure.

Your vacuum pump should not leak vacuum pressure when you pump up, and you have a good seal against your body with your cylinder.
Saying this and stating this as facts, will only make the Mityvac vacuum pump/"pumping gun" look bad. I can have my vacuum pressure at a solid 10 in.Hg for 5 minutes without touching the vacuum pump, it stays where I leave it.

If it goes down without you pushing the release button on the "pumping gun", or it leaking at your "fat pad" you have a leak in your vacuum system, there is no discussion about that.


Please take this seriously. Do not put WD-40 on rubber gasket and rubber seals. If you spray the "pumping gun" with WD-40 it will for sure creep inside the vacuum chamber and deteriorate the O-rings and vacuum seals faster.

Most excellent post. Maintenance is so important with these high end products
 
For those who use silicone grease religiously to maintain your equipment, there are silicone marine grease as well to upkeep your equipment. It's slightly pricier, but the formulation for marine silicone grease takes one step further to protect your equipment against the chemicals and mineral from your municipal water supplies. Boaters and those who live around marine environment can verify this.
 
You should not dip your entire vaccum pump in Silicon Grease. Just lubricate the O-rings and moving parts.
